Introduction to Stay Options

If you're considering a short-term visit to Suderbyn, it's essential to understand the rent and food prices that will apply during your stay. As a visitor with no prior connection to the community, you might be invited by a member—such as a friend or family—which could influence your stay length and associated costs.

Minimum Stay Requirements

The community has a minimum stay requirement for visitors, set at two weeks, to mitigate strain on local resources. However, if you wish to stay for a shorter duration, you're encouraged to contact the community with your motivation for an exception. These requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, particularly for stays under 14 days.

Cost Structure for Short-Term Visitors

For those planning to stay between 14 to 30 days, you will be charged a daily rate that includes housing and food allowances. Perhaps you are considering your contribution options? Volunteers, who contribute 20 hours a week, will find that they have reduced rates compared to tourists who do not participate in work exchange. It's vital to know which category you fall under as it could significantly affect your expenses.

Food prices also vary depending on whether you're opting for internal or external meals. Internal meals include all food provided on site, while those looking to dine off-site will need to plan accordingly for external meals. Make sure to discuss these details with your community contact to gain a comprehensive understanding of what to expect.

Overall, being prepared and informed about the rent and food prices can enhance your experience during your short-term visit to Suderbyn. You might also discover wonderful opportunities to connect with the community through volunteering, which could give you a unique and fulfilling experience.

What is the difference between a visitor and a guest?
A visitor is someone that has no previous existing link to any Suderbynian.
The guest status applies to 14 days (or less) visitors that are invited by a current community member. It can be family members, friends, or aspiring community members. If you are a guest, ask your reference person to communicate with you the prices for staying in Suderbyn 🙂

In order to avoid too much traffic in the community, which can be draining for us, the minimum length for a stay in Suderbyn for visitors is 2 weeks. If you want to visit for less than 2 weeks, you can still contact us and explain your situation, we might do an exception to our policy if you have good reasons.

Short Term Visitors: from 14 days to 30 days:
For short term visitors (between two weeks and one month), the rent and food allowance is based on a daily basis. If you already know you want to stay longer than 30 days, then go to the page “Rent/Food prices for long term visit
“Volunteers” (visitors that work with us an average of 20h/week) have a discount compared to “tourists” (visitors that don’t participate to the communal work). You can see at the bottom of this page what is considered as a working hour.
