Introduction to Mokri Potok
Nestled within the enchanting southern hills of Slovenia,
the Mokri Potok Ecovillage represents a unique transformation of a traditional village into a thriving eco-community.
This ambitious project was initiated by four dedicated individuals who recognized the vast potential of a once-abandoned nomadic village, now lovingly reclaimed from the municipality of Kočevje.
The goal?
To create a sustainable and harmonious living environment that coexists with nature while promoting community spirit.
Creating a Cooperative Community
The founding members of the Mokri Potok Zoo Cooperative
are not just builders;
they are visionaries committed to fostering a lifestyle
rooted in permaculture principles.
With a primary focus on self-sufficiency and ecological balance,
the cooperative emphasizes the importance of
shared resources for the well-being of all community members.
With a design based on family estates, this ecovillage encourages a sense of belonging and collaboration
among diverse families and individuals.
The Vision for Sustainable Living
As part of the ecovillage project, a comprehensive plan has been put in place to construct seven off-grid houses,
promoting sustainable living and reducing dependency
on external resources.
Currently, two of these houses have been completed, while another two are under construction,
symbolizing the resilience and determination
of the Mokri Potok community.
The cooperative manages the common lands to foster sustainable agricultural practices,
ensuring that the community's needs are met while minimizing environmental impact.
In conclusion, the Mokri Potok Ecovillage stands as a remarkable example of how community-driven efforts can breathe
new life into forgotten spaces.
Through sustainable practices and a commitment
to self-sufficient living,
this project not only strives to create homes but also to cultivate a cooperative spirit that harmonizes with the beauty of the
natural world surrounding Kočevje.
As more families and individuals join this endeavor,
the vision of a thriving ecovillage continues to take root,
ready to inspire others to pursue similar paths toward sustainability.
